The 2 times table from 1 to 12
- 2 × 1 = 2
- 2 × 2 = 4
- 2 × 3 = 6
- 2 × 4 = 8
- 2 × 5 = 10
- 2 × 6 = 12
- 2 × 7 = 14
- 2 × 8 = 16
- 2 × 9 = 18
- 2 × 10 = 20
- 2 × 11 = 22
- 2 × 12 = 24
Tips for learning the 2 times table
- Multiplying by 2 is the same as doubling: 2 × 8 = 8 + 8 = 16.
- Count in 2s: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10…
- Every answer is even, so it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
- Look for pairs in everyday life: socks, shoes, eyes and hands.
The 2 times table in the multiplication tables check
Up to 2 of the 25 questions start with 2, like 2 × 7. Other questions, like 7 × 2, can use it too. Children learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in Key Stage 1, so there are only 3 to 7 questions in all from these three tables.
